Effect of StatSeal on the frequency of IV dressing changes

“Peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) play a crucial role in patient care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). However, both the insertion and utilization of these catheters can be associated with complications, including catheter migration, bleeding at the insertion site and catheter-associated blood stream infections. After insertion, the catheter is secured with a transparent dressing, which is changed when soiled (typically blood at the insertion site) or non-occlusive. Catheter migration is verified on x-rays obtained for clinical indications. Frequent dressing changes may increase the risk of complications, including damage to the stratum corneum, catheter malposition from inadvertent dislodgement, and a possible increased risk of infection due to skin barrier disruption.
