"During surgery, major bleeding occurred. Despite sonographic-guided catheter placement, the catheter was mispositioned in the right pleura. The present report describes this clinical case and discusses the various options for verifying the correct position of a central venous catheter" Sammet et al (2025).

Accidental intrapleural placement of CVC

Extract:

“We report a patient who received a high-flow dialysis catheter and underwent surgery to repair an endoleak that occurred after endovascular aneurysm repair. During surgery, major bleeding occurred. Despite sonographic-guided catheter placement, the catheter was mispositioned in the right pleura. The present report describes this clinical case and discusses the various options for verifying the correct position of a central venous catheter. It emphasizes that even sonographic-guided catheter placement does not provide absolute certainty regarding correct central venous catheter positioning. Written consent was obtained from the patient for the publication of this case report.”
