Abstract:

Peripheral central catheter related deep vein thrombosis (PICC-DVT) has been proven to be a significant cause of unplanned extubation. We reported a case of 78-year-old patient, whose PICC was found kinked. After the adjustment, the blood flowed smoothly again. On the next day, catheter was found to be occluded and Color Doppler Flow Imaging (CDFI) shown that it occurred multiple deep vein thrombosis. Based on this case and current literature, CDFI could be considered within the first 1-2 weeks after PICC placement and during follow-up in high-risk patients, particularly given that thrombosis may occur early and may be clinically silent.
