Impact of a simplified cannulation procedure pack

Extract:

“This study found that PIVC-associated SAB rates decreased following the PIVC pack change. No other local changes regarding PIVC insertion took place during this period. Reinvigoration of the original “cleaner and fewer” MMI accompanied PIVC pack reintroduction, may have aided initial impact, but the improvement was maintained over time.

The overall pre- and postintervention PIVC SAB rates per 10,000 PIVCs of 1.42 (95% CI 0.89–2.15) and 0.45 (95% CI 0.18–0.92) are generally consistent with the variously described Australian national rates for all-source hospital-acquired SAB, of 0.74 and 0.71 cases per 10,000 patient days in 2015–2016 and 2019–2020, respectively.”
